Car Parking Management Strategy

Car Parking Management Strategy

Downham Market Town Council was formally requested to prepare a long term Car Parking Management Strategy because of increasing concerns that shops were closing, a perceived lack of parking and the poor turnover of parking spaces which, due to the town’s expansion, is feared only to worsen. After going through the appropriate tender process Alpha Parking Ltd were engaged to conduct the study and produce a report together with recommendations.

The objective of the study was to identify a solution that would maximise free space and be accountable in terms of revenue, comparable to other car parks in the area, increases usage and turnover that meets current and future projections for growth. An additional requirement was to have an ease of operation without using existing Town Council resources.

Having formally adopted the report, this permits the Town Council to bring the document into the public domain. It does not mean that any recommendations are intended for implementation as no decisions have been taken whatsoever, in reality we are now at the start of an informed process following receipt of an independent report, but it does allow the Town Council to begin public dialogue.
