CROSSROADS CARING FOR CARERS IN NORFOLK LTD.,
West Norfolk Branch
Helping unpaid carers within the local area, we provide a limited free service for families caring for people living with a physical disability or a mental health illness at home. It does not affect any other help, including financial help, which families are receiving. We can also provide additional support at an additional charge or through Direct Payments or Individual Budgets, more information is available from the Care Manager.
Although affiliated to the national organisation, this scheme is managed locally by a voluntary committee and all operations are carried out at our central office in Dereham. Carer Support Workers are trained to take the role of the unpaid carer providing personal care and/or company for the person who is disabled.
They work very flexible hours, are reliable and provide help when it is needed on a regular or occasional basis, according to changing family situations.
The West Norfolk Branch Care Manager welcomes all enquiries about the scheme and can be contacted at:

DOWNHAM DEMENTIA SUPPORT ASSOCIATION (DDSA) and DEMENTIA CAFE
DDSA hold a Dementia Café on the 4th Monday of every month. You will find a warm welcome, games and activities as well as support and advice for carers.

Anyone living with dementia and their carers are welcome.

We now run the Café on the 3rd & 4th Monday of every month 10 am – 12 noon

DDSA was set up during 2015 and has been working with Age UK Norfolk to raise awareness in the community of the issues faced by people living with dementia and their carers. The members of DDSA visited businesses around the town and invited them to the launch event of Downham as a Dementia Friendly Community. Businesses were subsequently offered training by Age UK Norfolk to help them to become Dementia Aware. This means that those businesses are more aware of how they can help people living with dementia both with their customer service and by creating a more dementia friendly environment. These businesses display Dementia Aware logos on their doors or windows.

We usually meet on the 3rd & 4th Monday of every month 10 am – 12 noon at the Methodist Church Hall, Paradise Road, Downham Market. Lunch can be purchased from 12 noon in the Church Social Centre.

DOWNHAM TOWN CRICKET CLUB
Downham Town Cricket Club is probably the oldest of the active clubs, dating back to the late 1700's. We have written details of matches that took place at that time. At the present time the club fields four senior teams and three junior teams. All competing in leagues and friendly competitions across the County. The 1st XII last year became the Norfolk Alliance Premier League champions and just this week clinched the title for the second year in a row. This makes the Town's cricket club one of the best in the County. The 3rd team are also champions of their league, as are the Sunday XII. The club also sends coaches into the local high school and the two primary schools as well as the high schools at Methwold and Terrington. This coaching is financed by the club with no contribution from the schools.
The home of Downham Town Cricket Club is The Memorial Playing Field, Lynn Road, Downham Market and monthly meetings are held in the clubhouse.

The club is currently for children 8-14 yrs of age who presented earlier this year a very successful production of The Rocky Monster Show. All those adults who are involved are volunteers and receive no payment. The club has been fortunate to receive grants from Kings Lynn Borough Council and the LNF to whom we are most grateful. We started in September 2007 to offer our members coaching for LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) certificates. We are presently working towards entering members for Entry, Grade 2 and Grade 3 Acting Awards .
In January each year we commence rehearsing for a Spring production.
At present we have a full membership but can add prospective members to a waiting list.
The club would be very happy to welcome anyone able to offer assistance particularly those with theatrical experience of any kind.

At Christmas 2011 we distributed 40 food hampers to local struggling families. Membership is by nomination from participating local churches.
