Visiting Downham Market

The town is characterised by its magnificent clock, many fine historic buildings, a host of local independent shops and a popular weekly market held in the centre of town on Fridays and Saturdays.

In recent years, Downham Market has grown from being a quiet market town to a busy town with supermarkets, cafes and restaurants.  It is fast becoming a hot spot for foodies, with  artisan bakeries, cheese shop and eateries catering for every taste and pocket.

The area is brim full of historic buildings and amazing architecture. Discover why Downham Market has its nickname ‘Gingerbread Town’ (due to its buildings made from local carrstone) and saunter through the countryside to explore fascinating nearby villages.

While in town why not pay a visit to the Discover Downham Museum, wonder at the historic Town Hall, take a walk to discover the alleyways and local landmarks, learn about notable people associated with the town, and take stroll round the Gingerbread Trail.

From the WWT Welney Wetland Centre to the west of the town, the Denver Complex to the south and Watatunga Wildlife Reserve and historic Kings Lynn to the north, the local area has everything a visitor to West Norfolk could want.
